East Dallas


East Dallas is a special place full of history, great architecture and a fun eclectic enviorment. It is a combination of historic neighborhoods, new homes built to the beauty of the area, and new urban townhomes ready for today’s lifestyle. It is situated between Central Expressway on the west and White Rock Lake on the east just a few minutes from downtown Dallas.

Lakewood

Lakewood is still to this day one of the treasures of the intown neighborhoods in Dallas. In the 1920's and 1930's, Lakewood was the most exclusive area in the city. Dallas' business elite built homes in Lakewood and made it "the" place to live.

There is a strong architectural history in Lakewood which has some of the finest examples of French Eclectic English Tudor, Colonial Revival and Spanish Eclectic. Albert Dines and Lee Kraft (Dines & Kraft) were major developers of the area. They built many landmark homes in the in the Country Club Estates area of the neighborhood. The premier architects were Cliff Hutsell , Charles Dilbeck and Anton Korn to name a few.

People are drawn to the wide lawns, deep lots, wooded hills and the superior location close to White Rock Lake. The lake offers a dog park, biking and jogging trails, sailing and perfect spots for a weekend picnic. There are many festivals and events that occur at the lake year round.

The Lakewood Shopping Center is the hub of neighborhood social activity. The historic Lakewood Theater still hosts special events, the Balcony Club offers swinging jazz and Matt's dishes up some of the best Mexican food around with a great outdoor dining area. There are terrific education options for those who live in Lakewood. Lakewood Elementary is a top notch public school. There are also several very strong private schools in the area: St. Thomas Catholic School, Lakehill & St. Johns.

In the end, Lakewood is an incredibly popular and friendly neighborhood with the best of what Dallas has to offer.
